University of Mary Day of Service
Heart River Lutheran Church
My fellow volunteers and I served at the Heart River Lutheran Church by sweeping floors, fixing chairs, and raking. This church is located on the campus of the Youth Correctional Center (YCC); after we had cleaned the church, we were allowed to tour one of the men’s housing centers. The director of that unit informed us about the layout, the privileges of the students, and how the members are able to continue their education. |
Pumpkin "Un-Parade"
Pumpkin Carving w/St. Anne's First Grade Students
My fellow volunteers and I served at St. Anne's by helping first grade students carve pumpkins for Bismarck's annual Pumpkin "Un-Parade." This parade was hosted by the Bismarck Public Schools Foundation in hopes of raising funds for additional mental health services for the Bismarck School System. While participating in this activity, I was able to visit with St. Anne's faculty, experience the school setting, and have fun with the students! |
No Excuses University
This year, our junior ELA class communicated with a fourth-grade class from a low socioeconomic area of Montana. Throughout the course of our experience, we conversed with our individual students weekly through a Google Document, sent multiple care packages, skyped with them, and encouraged and reminded them of the importance of learning!
TR 4 Heart & Soul
Therapeutic Riding 4 Heart & Soul
Last year, as a part of my Sophomore Emerging Leaders Experience, my fellow volunteers and I served at Therapeutic Riding 4 Heart & Soul by helping guide students, cleaning, and collecting donations. It was an amazing opportunity to witness the power of horse therapy and the many smiles it created. Katie and her family are amazing examples of what it means to serve. I look forward to serving here in the future. |
FBLA State Judge
This past April, I was able to volunteer at the North Dakota Future Business Leaders of America State Conference. Future FBLA helps high school students prepare for careers in business through academic competitions, leadership development, and educational programs. Because of my previous involvement and passion for this organization, I chose to use my newfound skills to return as a judge and volunteer. During this opportunity, I was able to judge middle level competitive events, serve as a timer, and monitor campaigning. It was a wonderful experience to see the other side of this organization! I cannot wait to continue working in this capacity.
